      SUNDAY JULY 17, 2022

      PASTOR'S MESSAGE—Fr. Sebastien SASA
“On the road to Jerusalem: peaceful hospitality”

      Dear brothers and sisters,

Hospitality is an important and essential Christian value. Jesus is traveling to Jerusalem to experience a tragic moment in his life. Before that, on the way, he finds hospitality, comfort, affection with two women friends: Mary and Martha. From this passage, we can learn three things: the importance of time for friendship, confidence and trust in Jesus, and a sense of service.

The Word of God for this Sunday (Gn 18, 1-10a - Lk 10, 38-42) helps us to understand that the time you spent with friends is not wasted time, on the contrary, it is time won. Among friends, you can share many things and you can receive wise advice, comfort or spiritual support.

Jesus on his way to Jerusalem where he is going to die, receives comfort, affection, moral support from his friends. They too receive something from Jesus: friendship, listening, the Word of God and a sense of service (Martha). The three men who arrived at Abraham's tent received a welcome, water to drink, to wash their feet and food to eat: pancakes, a fat and tender veal, cottage cheese and milk. In exchange, Sarah and Abraham receive, in their old age, the blessing of God: a child.

Finally, serving others is a great act of love. What joy when we are of service to others, we offer them something of ourselves. Martha begins to serve Jesus. Only, she is very restless and preoccupied with many things. Jesus tells her to seek out what is necessary and essential. To you too my brother and my sister, Jesus invites you to seek what is necessary, primordial, essential, the Kingdom and God and the others after (Mt 6:33).

From this friendship with Jesus, from the encounter with Him, you have received graces, blessings, gifts and charisms. Now, you are invited, like Saint Paul (Col 1, 24-28), to love his Church, to serve it and to announce, with joy, to all that Jesus is alive. Different charisms and gifts as in Mary (spirituality – “Ora”) and Martha (action – “labora”), but at the service of the same Church: unity in diversity.

      DOMINGO 17 DE JULIO 2022

      MENSAJE DEL PÁRROCO—Padre Sebastien SASA

"En el camino a Jerusalén: apacible hospitalidad"

      Queridos hermanos y hermanas,

Marta comienza a servir a Jesús.

      MONDAY TO FRIDAY

      LUNES A VIERNES

      THE EUCHARIST BUILDS THE CHURCH

“The worship of the Eucharist outside of the Mass is of inestimable value for the life of the Church. This worship is strictly linked to the celebration of the Eucharistic Sacrifice. The presence of Christ under the sacred species reserved after Mass – a presence which lasts as long as the species of bread and of wine remain – derives from the celebration of the sacrifice and is directed towards communion, both sacramental and spiritual. It is the responsibility of Pastors to encourage, also by their personal witness, the practice of Eucharistic adoration, and exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in particular, as well as prayer of adoration before Christ present under the Eucharistic species. It is pleasant to spend time with him, to lie close to his breast like the Beloved Disciple (cf. Jn 13:25) and to feel the infinite love present in his heart. If in our time Christians must be distinguished above all by the “art of prayer”,48 how can we not feel a renewed need to spend time in spiritual converse, in silent adoration, in heartfelt love before Christ present in the Most Holy Sacrament? How often, dear brother and sisters, have I experienced this, and drawn from it strength, consolation and support!”

(JOHN PAUL II, Encyclical Letter Ecclesia de Eucharistia On the Eucharist in its Relationship to the Church, 2003 # 25).

THE SOCIAL IMPLICATIONS OF THE EUCHARISTIC MYSTERY

“The union with Christ brought about by the Eucharist also brings a newness to our social relations: "this sacramental ‘mysticism' is social in character." Indeed, "union with Christ is also union with all those to whom he gives himself. I cannot possess Christ just for myself; I can belong to him only in union with all those who have become, or who will become, his own." The relationship between the eucharistic mystery and social commitment must be made explicit. The Eucharist is the sacrament of communion between brothers and sisters who allow themselves to be reconciled in Christ, who made of Jews and pagans one people, tearing down the wall of hostility which divided them (cf. Eph 2:14). Only this constant impulse towards reconciliation enables us to partake worthily of the Body and Blood of Christ (cf. Mt 5:23-24). In the memorial of his sacrifice, the Lord strengthens our fraternal communion and, in a particular way, urges those in conflict to hasten their reconciliation by opening themselves to dialogue and a commitment to justice. Certainly, the restoration of justice, reconciliation and forgiveness are the conditions for building true peace. The recognition of this fact leads to a determination to transform unjust structures and to restore respect for the dignity of all men and women, created in God's image and likeness. Through the concrete fulfilment of this responsibility, the Eucharist becomes in life what it signifies in its celebration. As I have had occasion to say, it is not the proper task of the Church to engage in the political work of bringing about the most just society possible; nonetheless she cannot and must not remain on the sidelines in the struggle for justice. The Church "has to play her part through rational argument and she has to reawaken the spiritual energy without which justice, which always demands sacrifice, cannot prevail and prosper." In discussing the social responsibility of all Christians, the Synod Fathers noted that the sacrifice of Christ is a mystery of liberation that constantly and insistently challenges us. I therefore urge all the faithful to be true promoters of peace and justice: "All who partake of the Eucharist must commit themselves to peacemaking in our world scarred by violence and war, and today in particular, by terrorism, economic corruption and sexual exploitation." (245) All these problems give rise in turn to others no less troubling and disheartening. We know that there can be no superficial solutions to these issues. Precisely because of the mystery we celebrate, we must denounce situations contrary to human dignity, since Christ shed his blood for all, and at the same time affirm the inestimable value of each individual person”

(BENEDICT XVI, Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Sacramentum Caritatis On the Eucharist As The Source And Summit Of The Church's Life And Mission, 2007 #89).

      EUCHARISTIC ADORATION – ADORACIÓN EUCARISTICA

      MONDAY TO FRIDAY

      LUNES A VIERNES

¡Cuántas veces, mis queridos hermanos y hermanas, he hecho esta experiencia y en ella he encontrado fuerza, consuelo y apoyo!”
